Professor Hung-Shih Chou, born in Hsin-Chu in 1953,
graduated from the Department of Physical Education
of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and obtained
his master's degree in Management of Physical Education
and doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction
of Physical Education from University of Georgia,
USA. In addition to his academic specialization in
physical education, curriculum design, and sports
management, Prof. Chou also excels in sports himself
and his sports specialty is badminton.
In academic research, in addition to seven academic
books on physical education and sports, Prof. Chou
has published approximately fifty articles in academic
journals and symposium proceedings from both domestic
and international events. Moreover, Prof. Chou has
conducted twenty-seven research projects entrusted
by the Ministry of Education and the National Science
Council, and has advised more than 120 graduate students.
Furthermore, not only publishing various articles
in periodicals, Prof. Chou has also been working in
the editorial and supervisory committees for domestic
academic journals, among which Prof. Chou is the editor-in-chief
for the Journal of Physical Education and Sports,
published by National College of Physical Education
and Sports (NCPES).
Prof. Chou has had rich experience in administration
as well. In academic administration, he has served
as the Dean of the Academic Affairs of National College
of Physical Education and Sports while he was granted
full-time professorship status in the Graduate Institute
of Physical Education of the same institute. Before
that, he had been the chairman of the Physical Education
Department, the director of the Extension Education
Center, the chair of the Graduate Institute of Physical
Education, and the Dean of the Student Affairs in
NCPES. Besides, he had ever served as the Dean of
School Affairs of Taipei Municipal Chung Hsiao Junior
High School. In addition to his rich experience in
educational administration for 18 years, Prof. Chou
has also had abundant teaching experience in both
academic sports and skills for more than two decades.
As for his service to the public and our society,
Prof. Chou is currently the Chairman of the Board
for Taiwan Association of Physical Education, as well
as the Chief Executive Directorate of ROC National
Sports & Physical Education Committee, the committee
member of the Board of Supervisors for the Taiwan
Society for Sport Management, the Executive Directorate
of the ROC Bowl Association, and other related positions
in private associations in Taiwan. Moreover, Prof.
Chou used to serve on the Physical Education Supervisory
Committee of the Ministry of Physical Education. He
has been a deeply committed public servant.
In his personal life, a presbyter of New Pei-Tou Presbyterian
Church, Prof. Chou preaches with all his efforts.
When studying in University of Georgia, USA, he ever
received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the
school authorities. Meanwhile, he also served as the
chairman of the Georgia State Chinese Teacher Union
and the leader of the Chinese Student Association
of the University of Georgia. When working at home,
he received the Excellence Award for teaching and
researching from the Department of Physical Education,
Ministry of Education. Prof. Chou has attained a global
educational perspective due to his worldwide experience.
With his gentility, amiability, sincerity, and consideration,
Prof. Chou has been an excellent leader, a distinguished
scholar, as well as a successful educator. He emphasizes
communication and coordination and works sincerely
and diligently. He is a valuable asset because of
his tolerance, endurance, and hard work. With his
experience and knowledge, he has also been a helpful
and supportive teacher for students. In these competitive
times, Prof. Chou is second to none in directing the
National College of Physical Education and Sports
toward a brighter future.
